he museum of Agricultural History and Popular Art is an additional part of the cultural "fresco" of AROLITHOS. The exhibits are precious elements of Cretan civilization and they are displayed to the public in order to achieve its spiritual and historical training. Additionally, the museum contributes to the identification and distinction of the Cretan identity, which is different from that of the other nations. |
n total the museum consists of four different parts, which present distinctive characteristics of the agricultural life of Cretan people. At the first part the decorated windows display Cretan handcraft in: Embroidery and weaving art The Cretan uniform Wood sculpture Church objects Cretan guns and bullets Glass objects Copper objects Coins and notes Jewels |
t the second part the visitor is able to see basic characteristics of a Cretan House. For example: The bedroom with the ornamented furniture The kitchen with the fireplace The Cretan living room The loom of the housewife with all the useful tools |
he agricultural professions are displayed at the third part. For example: The saddler The cultivator The blacksmith The tinsmith The basket-maker The carpenter The potter And the baller maker |
he fourth part consists of outdoor buildings which are closely related to the agricultural and cattle breeding activities. These activities include: Stone-made house or shepherd's building, the yard of sheep for milking, the spring of the village, the raki producing system and the threshing floor. |
